I don’t want to overintellectualize @AnthonyVaccarello’s glittering tenure at Saint Laurent but….

I’ve always thought of fashion designers as chefs. Their job is to feed us and nourish our souls. Some do the bare minimum. Some serve comfort food. Some serve fast food. Some create dishes you remember for the rest of your life.

And then there are certain enormous “luxury” houses with Michelin-starred kitchens, crazy budgets, priceless archives and every ingredient imaginable available at their disposal, somehow serving dog food from a tin can and calling it foie gras.

Anthony was NEVER that chef.

His Saint Laurent had a menu. A dress code. A clientele. It knew exactly what table it wanted you sitting at.

No substitutions. No children’s menu. No “something for everyone.” No gluten-free bullshit. No pathetic compromise dish for the bitch who wandered in and decided they didn’t like what was being served.

You either wanted what was on the menu or you went somewhere else.

That was the whole fucking point.

Maybe you loved it. Maybe you hated it. But you always knew what restaurant you were in.

Anthony kept serving the same fabulous burger and refining it obsessively.

That is conviction.

He didn’t keep changing the menu because corporate executives wanted to make money off duty-free Laduree macarons or some hungry internet troll wanted pasta.

Everything I love about Anthony’s Saint Laurent is exactly what some people dislike about it. Cancel me!

I love that it’s not for everybody. What’s the point of belonging to a club if every random can get in? I love that it’s not for YOU!

I love that I didn’t start buying it until my body was fit enough to wear it. I love that I forced myself to shed a few kilos to fit into a size 34 Saint Laurent situation.

I love that I feel sassy, nasty and cunty in it.

I love how glossy and slick it is.

I love that you can spot a Saint Laurent person a mile away.

Her clothes are never ill-fitting.

She has an attitude.

She looks terrifyingly good.

And most of all, she is comfortable in her own skin.

Bravo @anthonyvaccarello and your Saint Laurent team ❤️

Thank you @archdigest for telling the story of our captain’s cottage on Telegraph Hill. The history, the imperfections, and everything that makes it home.

When I took on the role of Executive Vice President and Creative Director of Gap Inc., @__harrisonball__ and I moved West ready to discover something new. Then we found this 1850s cottage and knew it was meant for us.

@kenfulk helped us make it ours with his magic touch. San Francisco antiques we’ll cherish forever. Flea market treasures, each with a story. And most meaningful to me, my father’s paintings, which came with me across the country. The garden is all Harrison. He planted every bit of it himself.

Thank you to @amyastley, @TheRealPlumSykes and @douglasfriedman for putting the spirit of this house in print.
