Mayor Jacob Frey has previously said he would not support subsidies for a new arena. While that position has not changed, the mayor said he anticipates “a substantial public-private partnership in some form.”

That could encompass development around an arena that includes housing, retail and other entertainment venues.

“This is a massive opportunity to shift how downtown functions,” Frey said.

But why would we publicly fund something privately owned? As it is they raise ticket and concession prices every season. Higher tax for nothing in return is a bad deal. Not surprised @jacobfrey1 doesn't understand this, he can't even balance a budget or reign in police spending

Minneapolis will again pay for another new arena. When are Minnesotans going to learn.

This feels like something a politician would say. Sports should be self funded, end of sentence.

If he's in favor, I'm out. Typical talk from both sides of his mouth.

Ah, yes, I would love to fund The Money Siphon that won’t employ anyone over minimum wage.

NO! WE. NOT. PAYING. FOR. A NEW. ARENA. How about @jacobfrey1 and the new owner pay for it. Cause if you can’t afford an arena, sounds like you can’t afford a new sports team either buddy!
