چارلز سوم، پادشاه بریتانیا، در رژه‌ی چهل‌وپنجمین سالگرد استقلال آنتیگوا و باربودا غافلگیر رگبار شد و تا رسیدن چتر چند دقیقه بی‌پناه ماند. او و همسرش کامیلا یکشنبه‌شب، نزدیک ساعت ۶:۳۰ به وقت محلی، ورزشگاه سر ویوین ریچاردز در سنت‌جانز رسیدند. لحظاتی پس از ایستادن بر سکو، باران شدیدی شروع شد. کامیلا، با لباس سفید بلند، چند بار از همراهانش چتر خواست و یکی از محافظان چتر شفافش را رساند. ملکه سپس به بخش سرپوشیده‌ی تماشاگران رفت و بقیه‌ی رژه را از آنجا دید.

چارلز همچنان زیر باران ایستاده بود و چند بار پرسید «چتر من کجاست؟» و دست‌هایش را تکان داد. سرانجام یکی از همراهانش چتری سیاه و کوچک رساند. پادشاه با آن چتر به وسط زمین رفت و گارد احترام را، در حالی که باران هنوز شدید بود، سان دید. بعدها به شوخی گفت روی شلوارش «شاهی» سبز شده است. کامیلا هم بعداً ماجرا را خنده‌دار خواند. باران بعد از مدتی بند آمد و چارلز و کامیلا با چهره‌های شاخص کشور در حوزه‌های فرهنگ، ورزش، آموزش و خدمات اجتماعی دیدار کردند.

این ماجرا در نخستین روزهای سفر نه‌روزه‌ی چارلز به کارائیب رخ داد. او روز سه‌شنبه نشست سران کشورهای مشترک‌المنافع را در آنتیگوا افتتاح می‌کند، نشستی که انتظار می‌رود بحث میراث برده‌داری آن را زیر سایه بگیرد. آنتیگوا و باربودا هنوز پادشاه بریتانیا را رئیس دولت خود می‌داند، اما نخست‌وزیر این کشور پیش‌تر از ام�
