TWO YEARS SOBER BABYYYYY

**EDIT: 10/10/24 is my sober date**

I developed really bad panic attacks around airplanes after being on an airplane that was struck by lightning.

a friend gave me 2 xanax for an upcoming trip.

i got sober in 2019 from alcohol but i thought treating my panic attacks wouldn't be a problem.

it worked. so i bought more.

but then, i needed the pills to get on a plane, to make a phone call, to go to a party, to fall asleep, after a show, to leave my house. i became physically dependent on it for two years, quietly. i found ways to get more but one batch i thought nearly gave me a seizure the day before i had headline tour for Kissing Death in Europe.

the paramedic said i should do the tour anyway, that it was all in my head. so i went, and decided to try withdrawing by myself (spoiler alert: don't do that)

i put on a brave face and toured Europe while trying to withdrawal cold turkey. i felt so much brain fog, i couldn't even think or read or feed myself. i couldn't appreciate how beautiful the cities were. i was in a dark shadow realm in my mind.

i remember meeting a fan and smiling and thinking "im glad they have a photo with me because i am going to k*ll myself when i get home.”

this thought scared me.

and i called my mom and told her everything, we started looking for rehabs. we found one, but it coincided with my US headline tour. I chose to cancel my first ever headline tour to go to rehab.

in rehab, i befriended convicts, chainsmoked cigarettes, carved pumpkins, journaled, cried and even tried improv comedy. i didn't listen to music the entire time i was gone. and slowly, i felt like a human again.

2 years later, i have adopted a dog, played a ton of shows sober, officiated a wedding, made new friends, did my first stand up open mic, and i have joyously returned to music and will start releasing my 4th album on Oct 29.
