Today I’m going to walk through the same doors I first walked through in March of 2016.
3,858 days ago.
126 months.
More than 10½ years.
42 seasons of healing, unraveling, rebuilding, learning, growing and becoming.
When I first walked through those doors, I was a very different woman.
Today, do I go because I desperately need someone to talk to? No.
Do I feel like I need someone to fix me or tell me what to do? Not really.
I go because somewhere along this journey, therapy became something different.
It became a safe place.
A sounding board.
A place where I can walk in, put absolutely anything on the table and know that I am free to speak without judgment.
A place built on trust.
And there is something incredibly beautiful about having that kind of space in your life.
Healing didn’t happen because somebody saved me.
It happened because I finally opened my mind and my heart to the possibility that healing was available to me, and then I kept showing up for it.
Again.
And again.
And again.
For 3,858 days.
There is no finish line where we suddenly become a perfectly healed human.
We just keep becoming.
And today, when I walk through those doors again, I won’t be thinking about the woman who needed therapy in 2016.
I’ll be honoring the woman who was brave enough to walk through them in the first place.
Because she had absolutely no idea where that decision was going to take her. 💜
