This past summer in Guangzhou, I had the honor of working with a crew of Deaf, CODA, and hearing children to create 《手心·小王子》 (“Little Prince in our Hands), a Chinese sign language, theatre adaptation of the classic tale “Le Petite Prince”. We successfully performed entirely in CSL with the support of accessible captions.

On the International Day of Sign Languages, I’m looking back with gratitude, for the young performers, Deaf and hearing artist collaborators, and the families who trusted us. May we keep building spaces where sign languages are celebrated at the center of storytelling, imagination, and a fulfilling life.

The staging is mindblowing. Rare to see the captions be part of the artistic vision!
