We are delighted to announce that Southall Black Sisters has been awarded £92,136 through the Cabinet Office Evaluation Accelerator Fund for our Safe and Sane project.
Abuse-related suicide remains a significant but poorly understood area of violence against women and girls. For Black, minoritised and migrant women and girls, the intersecting impact of abuse, racism, immigration insecurity and other structural barriers can shape both experiences of violence and access to support.
Through this project, we will build the evidence around abuse-related suicide and attempted suicide, including so-called ‘honour’-related suicide, and examine what prevention and intervention approaches are working within specialist ‘by and for’ organisations.
We need better evidence to understand the scale of the issue, strengthen prevention and ensure women experiencing abuse are recognised and supported before it is too late.
