I did a series of work on paper titled, Parallel Sides. It began as a conversation across four thousand miles of ocean.
Andy Spink, an artist based Scotland and I began exchanging small 8 × 10-inch paintings, based on a square, each responding to the other’s work. I then incorporated his paintings into my larger paper paintings and mine into his, allowing the two bodies of work to meet, overlap, and speak across distance.
The paintings became a visual correspondence—an exchange of marks, color, ideas, and gestures traveling from one side of the pond to the other. What began as separate works gradually became a shared space, connecting two artists through the quiet language of making.
Thanks Andy for quite the adventure, on the mountain and on paper!
