Bikramjit Bose. These images were shot by him on Mamiya RB67 and Contax G2. ‘But why do you shoot on film Bimbo?’, I asked. “simply put…analog photography puts the craft in making an image back into the equation. Digital has made photo making too straightforward, with zero craft involved. The camera does everything for you. And digital makes it too much of a full/fool proof process with no room for happy mistakes. And yes, it slows everything down”. Slowing down the process. A key overlap in our lives and approach to creating. Resisting the urge to control everything. Preordained outcomes , fixed and rehearsed till the yawns come home is not his cup of choice. Nor mine. Waiting for the film to be developed. No instant gratification and short listing of images. The process is processing. It was liberating to work with him. He kept asking me to resist the ‘fierce and the intense’ (my usual go to space) but enjoy the soft and delicate. He was delirious during this shoot with an illness coming on. But he powered through, until he could not. So what would the images be, was something none of us knew. That not knowing was strangely the most beautiful part of the process. Thank you @thebadlydrawnboy Cheers to the best and the worst of the Bengali in us. Hmu @miteshrajani Styling @rupangigrover @bloni.atelier
