Buying vegan leather achieves NOTHING but waste.
There were too many arguments about my original video on vegan leather to fit into one response. I'm currently working on a follow-up video on the sustainability of real leather compared to vegan leather alternatives. Yes, I will address cactus leather, mushroom leather, pineapple leather, etc. Spoiler: they're no better.
I'm really baffled at how far this debate has moved from its original point. I was never attempting to attack veganism as a lifestyle. My critique was aimed at vegan leather, a fashion trend that has failed to slow the beef industry even slightly and has achieved nothing but excessive waste.

animal leather destroys the environment more than "plastic leather" that btw can last a lifetime educate yourself, there's good quality plastic leather from the 60s. also these are not the only two options for clothing just wear neither

Genuine leather lasts decades if properly cared for centuries. Plastic imitations at best last a decade or two before becoming trash. Factoring in now that leather is basically a free byproduct of beef and plastic requires sludge from the ground that if spilled causes billions in irreversible damage, leather is the obvious choice.

@bigbossbutthole this is also a pretty interesting part of the conversation we've been having. Just the fact that animals aren't granted burials or any respect for "left overs", so "the rest of them" just gets thrown away :/ (srry for harrassing you atp lol, I've become very entertained by the conversation)

"vegan" leather and its basically just polyester which is arguably far more damaging to animals/the environment.

i remember my sister's ex BF bought "vegan leather" doc martens and was trying to act morally superior to me because i ONLY buy real leather docs. told him "your shoes are made of plastic and will be on this earth forever. mine can biodegrade." and he SHUT UP REAL QUICK
