The other night Nova told me she’s been writing poetry & asked if she could read it to me. I got so excited because I love poetry & have been writing since I was about her age. She’s only 11 years old. So admittedly I wasn’t expecting something super profound or deep if I’m being completely honest. But then she read the title first “Jane Doe’s Bows” & I was a bit shocked. Because I talked to her about Jane Doe’s situation one morning when she saw it on the news. So we had a long, intense, but necessary conversation. I thought that was it. She never mentioned it again or asked any more questions about it. Then she started reading it out loud & I just had to record it. Because after she was done. I was very moved & so impressed with her capacity to not only understand such complex situations, but the ability to alchemize them into art. I’m SO proud of this girl! She never ceases to amaze me & I’m so blessed & honored to be her father! 🥹🫶😭🙏 #GirlDad #NovaleeReign #WomensRights #JaneDoe #Cornell

Kids go through a highly sensitive brain development period up until 16. Let them get through the most vulnerable period of neural development before connecting them to a firehose of social comparison and algorithmically chosen influencers. More on this in #theanxiousgeneration. ✍️ Comment "parent teacher talk" for a 1-hour video talk with lots of slides that I give to schools and policymakers. ✍️ Comment "link" for a YouTube link to the full 48-minute conversation with @hodakotb on the @todayshow — thanks so much for having me!
