El Manto

Today, we're releasing Aixopluc, one of the most meaningful projects we've put together at El Manto.

A compilation for the Sierra de Espadán, bringing together 21 artists from around the world through ambient, experimental and electroacoustic music to raise funds for the recovery of the Sierra.

In July 2026, wildfires devastated part of this mountain range in Castellón, Valencia, burning almost 9,600 hectares.

Every artist on the compilation incorporated at least one field recording I made in the Sierra shortly before the fire.

The project was born within the Inner Echo community, thanks to the kindness and generosity of fellow artists and friends. Special thanks to Harry Towell @whitelabrecs , andrewheatharts @driftworks_recordings , @mosaicist1 @evergreenmusicuk and Nigel Spencer @folk_police_recordings for helping bring this project to life.

Aixopluc means shelter in Valencian. This compilation is our way of creating one through sound.

The cover features an oil painting by local artist @carlos_pesudo , begun shortly after the fires, adapted by @ribot____ , who also wrote the poem featured on the cover.
