7 days agoLot more work back then compared to today. Carrying bigger Gear and not to mention all the Crates of Music and Mixing was a lot different too we didn’t have Serato and Sync Buttons so you either knew what you were doing or you didn’t you couldn’t Fake it.
7 days agoDT can u just move that antenna to the left a bit? Channel 13 is still fuzzy. And thank u for still being a great advocate for the history, music and of course long one dj only sets
9 days agoToday it’s absolutely p iss easy & even easier for promotors as everyman or woman & his dog is a dj now… The 80’s were tough but also magical, depended on how your not went & maybe where you were… 82 I joined BBC at Pebble Mill Birmingham. I was playing reggae funk & soul in most of the places I played. 3 to 5 hour sets were the norm & if you played a club that had a bit of both then you were always going to get the ones that didn’t like something ! around 83/84 I was teaching myself to mix copying things from wblk tapes with tony Humphrey’s & the late Froggy in uk. By 86, 87 & 88 & after 3 DMC finals I was playing in Tenerife and funk soul was starting to fade because house was coming in big time. Steve silk Hurley, Raze, Joe smooth, Marshal Jefferson, Farley jackmaster, Frankie & proud to say I was right there in front playing it all. As for flashy equipment lol we had less than anywhere else, 2 or 3 decks and a half decent mixer, I actually had begged & got a PM80 mixer and my sound was crown audio system, wasn’t set up the best but it worked. 89 I became the resident dj at BCM Mallorca where I worked with 4 of your dj’s on this post a couple of times… my story goes on but you get the drift.🤩 desmitchell .net 🙌🏾
