🧠Know the risks - extreme prematurity, high or fluctuating oxygen, BP instability, anemia, transfusion, infection, fluid overload, abnormal CO₂, pain and stress - then mitigate them.
💎Pearls:
📍Judicious oxygen with bi-phasic targets: SpO₂ 85–92% days 1–30, then 92–97% from day 31
📍Stable blood pressure, CO₂, and temperature; prevent/treat anemia; avoid fluid overload and high FiO₂
📍 Serial cranial ultrasounds in high-risk infants - early detection improves outcomes
📍Many preterm infants go on to thrive with early detection and supportive care
