I find that same redemption of time post training block and race is also part of the reward of a hard earned race cycle. It’s just as rewarding as the finish sometimes.

The reason I loved last night was the look of awe and adoration on the faces of preverbal children when they saw me, thinking I was her. Even infants in their parents’ arms would become star struck and wrestle their way away from the home base of their parent to try and be held by me (Ms Rachel). I saw the childlike delight trapped inside self aware adults, too, both coming alive and then immediately suppressed (sadly, most often in fathers attempting to maintain their masculine facade)… ms Rachel manages to be full of rage and sorrow, and actively spreads joy as a practice.

After 23 years of goals, records and historic victories, Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his retirement from international football. The 41-year-old Portugal captain shared an emotional farewell video on November 5, bringing one of football’s most celebrated national-team careers towards its conclusion. “Portugal will always be in me,” Ronaldo wrote alongside the announcement. Reflecting on his journey, he said the time had come to hand over Portugal’s iconic No. 7 shirt to the next generation. His farewell focused on the people behind his career, from teammates and support staff to Portuguese supporters around the world. Ronaldo has scored 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal, holding the men’s world records for both international goals and appearances. His senior international journey began in August 2003 against Kazakhstan and went on to span six World Cups and six European Championships. He captained Portugal to their first major international trophy at Euro 2016, before helping the country win the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025. Those victories became defining moments in a career that transformed Portugal’s standing in international football. In his farewell, Ronaldo acknowledged the disappointments alongside the triumphs, thanking his family, colleagues and supporters. He described representing Portugal as the greatest privilege of his career, with the connection he built with its people meaning more than the records he leaves behind.
