A Marine veteran who helped stop the gunman during the Memorial Drive shooting in Cambridge, MA in May, received a major honor at the State House during a moving 9/11 remembrance ceremony. Marine veteran T.J. Swenson Jr., was recognized "for his extraordinary actions to protect others" during the shooting rampage, Gov. Maura Healey, said. Investigators say that Swenson and a Massachusetts State Police trooper opened fire on the alleged gunman, stopping him from injuring more people. While Swenson didn’t speak, he did issue a lengthy statement about what happened that day. The award is named for the Acton flight attendant who was working on American Airlines Flight 11 on 9/11. Every year the award is given out to a MA resident in her honor.
