What comes first, your race or your gender? Today, I’m seated with another Fired Up Feminist Freshman, @ariannajoyous , who shares her insight on this question. We conclude that this is actually a trick question as race and gender cannot be separate conversations, feminism must be inherently intersectional where we understand how these two parts of our identity provide unique experiences for women, and gender diverse peoples specifically in society. Do you think we separate conversations about race from gender and vice versa? What role does intersectional feminism play in our modern society? @amanda_lacomba18 You say that, but your ethnicity (and the stereotype associated with it) will come first. It's just facts.

Probably because I am a white woman and within that exists its own privilege, I consider my gender to come first. I cannot speak for everyone, but from my perspective I believe women also experience a predominant feeling of comradery between one another regardless of race.

Oh so people who speak English should care more about their race and the people who speak languages that put the adjectives after the noun should care more about their gender

Yoooo this is amazing discussions! There's an emotional labor (I think called hermeneutic labor) by being able to quickly perceive and anticipate others reactions to your race/gender/class/sexuality when you walk into a space, and adjust accordingly. Sometimes the aggressions and lack of eye contact could be because of one, the other, or both
