Meet the incredible people behind Let’s Talk Women of Colour. As a youth-led, and predominantly women of colour led organization, we aim to provide women of colour and young people a chance to engage in important social justice dialogue rooted in intersectional feminism. Our goal is to host monthly coffee chat dialogues where young women can lead their own discussions in a free and welcoming environment to inspire activism while building new friendships! Our coffee chat program is our signature program, however, we also frequently host panel discussions, and art events to engage larger audiences. Finally, we use social media as a way of amplifying marginalized voices, stories and inspiring you to challenge the status quo!

The Tyee, Vancouver’s independent, reader-supported daily news magazine, recently spotlighted Let’s Talk Women of Colour and the leadership behind our growing community.

Our signature coffee chats create welcoming third spaces where young women—particularly women of colour—can come together to discuss politics, intersectional feminism, culture, identity, and social justice.

In a time when conversations about race, gender, and identity can become polarized online, we believe in creating spaces for meaningful dialogue: listening to lived experiences, asking difficult questions, learning from one another, and building the language to challenge injustice. And you don’t have to be a person of colour to participate—just an openness to listen, learn, and engage respectfully.

Since launching in March 2025, we’ve engaged 250+ young women through free community discussions and events, partnered with 7 independent Vancouver cafés, and collaborated with organizations including Women Leaders of Tomorrow, Hogan’s Alley Society, and UBC’s Black Student Union.

As founder Zoya Reebye begins her next chapter at the University of Toronto, we’re excited to watch Let’s Talk Women of Colour continue growing—not just in Vancouver, but in Toronto and beyond.

The conversation is only getting started.

Welcome to Let’s Talk WOC’s weekly series: Revolutionaries, where we highlight the activism of powerful leaders that advocated for racial justice and how their philosophy is applicable in today’s world. Zoya talks about how powerful Malcolm X’s « By any means necessary » motto is and how it inspires us to advocate in unity, and unapologetically. This quote was delivered at Malcolm X’s speech in 1964 at the founding rally of the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Often this quote is taken out of context, but pushes us to educate ourselves, protect our communities, use our voices to advocate for racial justice and human rights. Do you think freedom can only be achieved though any means necessary? #malcolmx #blackpower #fyp #justice #activism by @lets.talkwoc

From unpacking Shane Gillis’s recent SNL monologue, to the history of derogatory language aimed at women, this video explores the nuances of our language and how it contributes to present day discrimination. Anna Li explores examples such as the Jezebel Stereotype and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ crisis, highlighting the depth of systemic oppression and issues that are very much alive.#feminism #socialjustice #mmiw #shanegillis #explore by @lets.talkwoc

Can women actually drive?! Yes, women can drive. The « women can’t drive » thing was just a sexist stereotype invented by men years ago so that women stay weak and dependent!! But statistics prove it completely wrong. Made by @ily_lne. DM us @lets.talkwoc if you’d like to make a post submission on a topic related to race, history, intersectional feminism and social justice!

What comes first, your race or your gender? Today, I’m seated with another Fired Up Feminist @shelly_j.w who shares her insight on this question. Race and gender cannot be separated conversations, as the experiences of those with multiple layers of identity changes one’s experience in society with privilege and oppression. In this video, Rachelle explains the meaning of the term “misogynoir” and how the experiences of Black women are unique where neither race or gender can ever “come first”. What role does intersectional feminism play in our modern society? Let us know in the comment section! What comes first, your race or your gender? Today, I’m seated with another Fired Up Feminist Freshman, @ariannajoyous , who shares her insight on this question. We conclude that this is actually a trick question as race and gender cannot be separate conversations, feminism must be inherently intersectional where we understand how these two parts of our identity provide unique experiences for women, and gender diverse peoples specifically in society. Do you think we separate conversations about race from gender and vice versa? What role does intersectional feminism play in our modern society? On Oct 22nd, we hosted Toronto’s first Let’s Talk Women of Colour Coffee Chat! Women aged 14-24 gathered over coffee to discuss the social and political impacts of cultural appropriation, fetishization of women of colour, and the cost of cultural erasure. Exploring terms like imperialist nostalgia, bell hooks concept of “eating the other”, and the impact of white dominant culture, we were able to have a meaningful and educational discussion. If you’re passionate about intersectional feminism, community organizing and social justice education, our coffee chats are for you! Send us a DM if you’d like to get involved in hosting, planning, and leading a coffee chat in your own community. Our coffee chats combat the issue of digital polarization surrounding topics regarding race, women, gender, and society and provides a solution by organizing women in particular, to have an open and respectful conversation rooted in historical analysis. We can’t wait to see you at our next chat! #letstalkwoc #feminism #culturalappropriation #activism #toronto by @lets.talkwoc

Welcome to the Intersectionality of Conflict, a series where I’m going to explain to you why an intersectional feminist lens must be applied to global injustice and conflict. ( I lied, this video is actually 4 minutes) Let’s talk about why Gaza is a feminist issue. From period poverty, to abuse, to ethnic cleansing and reprocide, western feminism cannot continue to turn a blind eye to this injustice. The internet has normalized cultural commodification and appropriation, leading to BIPOC cultures often feeling it likes “stolen” without due credit or appreciation. This can lead to immense cultural erasure, where society normalizes “trendifying” a cultural item, without appreciating the people who created it and the origins of the item itself. If you’re looking for a social justice community in Toronto, now is your chance to be apart of a powerful youth led initiative! ☕ On Thursday, Oct 22nd from 4:45-7 pm, join me for our first-ever Toronto Coffee Chat as we unpack cultural appropriation in the digital age, exploring how BIPOC cultures are consumed, commodified, and repackaged online while the communities behind them are often stereotyped, erased. Where? Soul Made Cafe ( 385 Spadina Street) 4:45-7 PM, for 15 women/gender diverse peoples. How? Get your free Eventbrite ticket with the link in our Instagram bio (@Lets.talkwoc). Whether you’re passionate about activism or just curious about the world around you, this is an opportunity to challenge your perspectives, build confidence, and strengthen your advocacy skills.

✨ AND THE BEST PART? The first 6 people to sign up will receive a FREE drink or food item from Soul Made Cafe! #culturalappropriation #bellhooks #toronto #commodification #poc by @lets.talkwoc
