12 days agoWe have only been at it a year and there is a place we play for “free” but ppl that attend know they are going for music and there is a good tipping atmosphere there. We usually make more there than other places. At some point we are going to hit a time where we will refuse gigs based on pay.
12 days agoI agree, but I think most people don't agree with number 2. I was told "persistence is politeness." And sometimes it does pay off to keep after something. But also since I personally hate being bugged I haven't tended to pursue things more than a few times (at least back when I was trying to get into venues, especially in other states or areas). If I don't get an email back I just wrote off that whole state or whatever. People told me I should just keep trying but it never felt like it was worth the effort.
12 days agoThe more I watch your videos there is more things I disagree with. I do agree with a lot of things but it feels like you’re just baiting at times. A gentle reminder to tip the band is very helpful because people genuinely forget they should if they are really enjoying it. Number three for sure. Don’t do that please. Driving down the value of all live music in your region.
12 days agoPlaying free shows is definitely good for exposure but probably not if you are on a more professional basis but if you are a band just starting out (like me) I reckon it’s probably not a bad idea just for people to notice you a bit
12 days agoSaying yes to every single gig whether you are good for it or it is good for you. Sometimes you gotta say nah thats not really what we do.
12 days ago2. Unless you have a quiet month and the venue thinks you are too busy to play for them so it does no harm to remind them that you still love playing there.
