40 days ago, I turned 40.
Twenty times two ♥️

Which is just as well, because I’m still 21 in my head…
My youngest daughter asked me ‘What’s the difference between 30 and 40 Mom?’

At 30, I was raising my two little girls as a solo parent, their father was in prison. I celebrated quietly around the corner in a restaurant with my daughters, mom, brother and one friend. I was fiercely ambitious, working in corporate and dreaming of building something of my own. I remember crying because I couldn’t imagine how I’d ever afford a first home for my girls.

I was trying to catch up to those 10 years ahead of me; I’d had my daughters young. I was exhausted, only beginning to understand healing after an adulthood of domestic abuse.

I had my girls and wanted so desperately to give them everything I possibly could. Safety, stability and possibility.
I once heard that life changes in decades, how true that feels.

Between 30 and 40...
Well one BBC TV show. One very famous investor secured.
Five years of therapy. Four domestic abuse recovery programmes.A business founded, grown to 7 figures multiple times, expanded to the US. A shareholder agreement renegotiated and my majority shareholding signed.
151 speaking engagements. Two proud female charity ambassadorships. Two homes purchased, one built from rubble. Beautiful friendships, an extraordinary team, my beautiful life partner and now a wonderfully blended family.
Two daughters growing into the most remarkable young women. I’m in awe of them.

It’s the story of a woman who kept going, even when she couldn’t see what was waiting on the other side. This year, I celebrated surrounded by safety and love in the home I’ve spent years dreaming of and am still building…much like me, I guess.

My girls are my reason.
I want them to know that where you start doesn’t have to determine where you finish.
That strength and softness can live together.
And that you can begin again, as many times as you need.

So here I am.
40. Proud. Grateful.
Still a work in progress, imperfectly me.

Thank you to everyone who has loved me, believed in me, walked beside me and celebrated with me.

I keep seeing clickbait headlines about how AI is accelerating the ways in which scammers are able to hack into systems and steal our identities at unprecedented rates, and it is hard not to feel like, despite the warnings, the only things the powers that be seem to be doing about it is to just speed up the AI development and then just tell us to change our passwords more often? To be on the lookout? To keep an eye on our credit activity? Idk I just feel like if all of our credit scores are so vulnerable to being impacted by these attacks that are entirely outside of our control... maybe it’s time to just get rid of credit scores?
