Abuse comes in different forms. This is what it looked like for me. After I collapsed at home, a paramedic called Erik and told him to come for the boys. He didn’t. Hours later, both boys were lying beside me on an ER stretcher while I received IVs, underwent EKGs and tried not to vomit. I called him hysterically crying, begging for help. He said his parents were coming. They never arrived. We took an Uber home. The outbreak was making local news. Spartanburg Regional had urged people to avoid hospital visits unless “absolutely necessary.” Still, he left the boys there with me. Despite an ER doctor diagnosing me, he told others I was exaggerating or wasn’t really sick, just trying to get him home. That was part of the abuse: refusing help, then undermining my credibility by portraying my medical emergency as manipulation. When he developed the same symptoms the very next day, I cared for him. My boys watched me care for him. They also watched me beg him to care for us.

Howdy Austin!! So excited to be back!!🤠
