2 hours agoYes. I asked a GP at 8 yrs old if I had a cows milk and wheat allergy. She told me there’s no such thing. I was too young to challenge her knowing my Brother had just been diagnosed with these exact allergies. I refused to see a doctor again till I was 14 due to ill mental health. I was refused help. Went private finally at 21 and to no surprise found the food allergies but it was too late as I had malnutrition and immaturely self medicated with alcohol during later teen years. Something still was confusing and CBT helped a bit but from 25 started asking for testing past the surface diagnosis of anxiety and depression. Finally at 30ish I was put on the waiting list for an autism diagnosis - only because my male partner took charge and instantly got me help. Here we are now with my AuDHD, dyslexia and food allergies diagnosis’s that could have been found when I was crying for help at 8 years old. Such a shame I only got here because of the help of “the right to choose” in the UK. Might not seem like a big deal to some but knowing how your brain works is suicide prevention and I may not be struggling so much financially if I had the answers earlier instead of private healthcare, talking therapies (what a waste!) So many of these stories in the comments are so upsetting Sending love to all. 💐
3 hours agoI was severely unwell and was sent home by male doctors in a&e twice in 36 hours. On the third time (by which point I was barely able to speak due to how unwell I was) I pushed the male doctor to write that he was sure there was nothing wrong with me. He said fine I’ll send you for some blood tests but I guarantee you there’s nothing wrong with you and you will come back and say there was nothing wrong with you. After the blood tests came back I was transferred and admitted to a specialist hospital for a full week.
4 hours agoTook 5 years before I got properly seen by a gyno for utrine fibroids, first one focused on my weight only, changed hospitals, had MRIs, contrast dye, prostap injections to shrink them
4 hours agoLived and worked in more than 10 countries in Europe including the UK, and travelled over 40 countries. The worst health system it is in the Uk. I was dismissed many times in uk even whilst I was paying for private just to do the tests. Worst are the UK, spain and Italy. Bucharest my home city one of the best and quickest in public or private, all the tests, solutions and doctors I found are the best in Europe.
5 hours agoShe didn't even explain what the other doctor said then complain about what the doctor was doing?😂😂and what she meant by xyz? Coordinates? 🤣🤣🤣
5 hours agoI had a lump on my breast and no joke my doctor said "ok?" in a "what does that have to do with me tone". I caught me so off guard I was like "...and it should probably be checked out because its a lump on my breast, you know like it says on every poster and every ad aimed at women". He said "youre too young its unlikely to be an issue, maybe come back if its still there in 6 months". Who the fk is letting you people through med school?!
5 hours agoive been dismissed and ignored way too many times for an autism diagnosis that ive just given up at this point. they just keep referring me to some other bullshit and no-one actually just fucking tests me. just jumping around 500 doctors and none of them do anything
6 hours agoTrue.. And get yelled by male doctor. Change to woman doctor, and she believes me.. (Sorry my english)
6 hours agoThis! After YEARS of me going to my gp for weird symptoms and misdiagnosed as anxiety, I pushed, complained and pushed harder and turned out to be heart failure , If I listened I would have died. Only after all of that to go to A&E because my heart failure nurse told me to for a male dr to tell me ‘so why do you think you’re in heart failure?’ Umm, because I’m literally diagnosed with it?😂
6 hours agoI took my 9 year old to the GP because she was refusing food, tired all the time, falling asleep whenever she had a chance. The GP referred her to paediatrics. They wrote to me telling me they weren't interested, there was nothing for them to investigate and to wait on the 3 year waiting list for CAMHS for eating disorder. I took her to a private GP and paid for a full blood screen. She was severely iron deficient and supplements have fixed the majority of the problem. She suffered for a long time unnecessarily - the first GP could have diagnosed severe iron deficiency by looking at her nails, her eyelids, her gums, and put her on supplements straight away.
7 hours agoI had issues with my jaw clicking for a very long time, resulting in headaches and jaw muscle stiffness. Had an old male doctor tell me it's just that I'm not opening my mouth the right way (how the fuck do you open your mouth the wrong way for 22 years of your life????)
8 hours agoI had really bad pain under my stomach and went to the emergency room and the male doctor did ultrasound on me and said he couldn’t see anything and couldn’t find my ovaries. Then claimed i didn’t have any (i obviously do) and sent me back home. Mind you i couldn’t walk bc of the pain. I went to my gp and he said i could have an Appendicitis and sent me back to the hospital. There they didn’t seem to find anything again and sent me to an MRI. Turns out i had 2 10cm big cysts around my ovaries.
