OKOTOKS! - Let’s talk Elma Street.
As Okotoks continues to grow and expand, there’s something special about the streets that have been part of our community from the beginning. The street you take your out of town company to because it has a feeling that everyone loves. A lot of times, this street is what seals the deal for many considering moving to our town.
With its beautiful mature trees, charming character homes, local shops and walkable location, Elma Street is easily one of the most recognizable streets in town.
But there’s more to it than just good looks!
Elma Street is home to an incredible mix of residential properties and locally owned businesses. From French 50 Bakery and The Duchess on Elma to Sweet Pea Apothecary, 94 Take the Cake and Casa Tequila, Unity Collective Medical Aesthetics, Tattoo Studios, Hair Salons, Home & Clothing Shopping Boutiques, Dr offices, Tailors & Dry cleaning, and professional collective workspaces - there’s no shortage of reasons to spend an afternoon here.
Its unique downtown district zoning allows for a blend of residential and commercial uses, creating opportunities for businesses, homeowners and even live-work spaces, all while maintaining the street’s historic charm.
A little history: Elma Street was named after Elma Lineham, the eldest daughter of John Lineham, an early Okotoks businessman whose family played an important role in our town’s development.
I love seeing our community grow, but I also love that we’re preserving the places that give Okotoks its character.
Fun fact: the first home I ever lived in in Okotoks was on Elma Street. I grew up riding my bike down the streets, racking leaves and mowing lawns for a couple dollars and even as a young kid, I loved the streets beauty ✨
