For a few months now I’ve been so curious about the Okotoks Big Rock, and today I finally took a little trip to the erratic quartz! ☺️ A few things I learned about this random rock: 1. 30,000 years ago it took a trip on a glacier from Jasper and landed here. 2. The Indigenous Blackfoot peoples named this rock after their word for rock = Okatok 3. It weighs 16,500 tons! I was very satisfied after visiting the Stonehenge of Alberta! 😊 And so was Hughes! 😋 #calgary #alberta #okotoks

Review for Heartland Restaurant – Okotoks We had dinner at the Heartland Restaurant in Okotoks, and it was beyond amazing! Honestly, I can’t think of any place in Calgary or the surrounding area where we have had such a spectacular experience. Our server was absolutely fantastic - attentive, personable, and made us feel so comfortable throughout the evening. She was not only exceptional at her job but also such a joy to chat with - her warm, happy energy made the night even more special. And I haven’t even mentioned the food yet... it was out of this world! Every dish was a masterpiece - the taste, the presentation - truly the best dining experience we’ve had anywhere in Alberta. We travel often for both work and pleasure, and this stands out as a true gem. The atmosphere inside the beautifully repurposed old church added even more charm and uniqueness to the evening. Thank you to the talented chef for the absolutely delicious creations - you can truly see and taste the passion and artistry that goes into every plate. And thank you to the owners for creating such a special place for us all to enjoy. We will absolutely be back, and we’ll be telling everyone about Heartland Restaurant. With its beautiful mature trees, charming character homes, local shops and walkable location, Elma Street is easily one of the most recognizable streets in town. But there’s more to it than just good looks! Elma Street is home to an incredible mix of residential properties and locally owned businesses. From French 50 Bakery and The Duchess on Elma to Sweet Pea Apothecary, 94 Take the Cake and Casa Tequila, Unity Collective Medical Aesthetics, Tattoo Studios, Hair Salons, Home & Clothing Shopping Boutiques, Dr offices, Tailors & Dry cleaning, and professional collective workspaces - there’s no shortage of reasons to spend an afternoon here. Its unique downtown district zoning allows for a blend of residential and commercial uses, creating opportunities for businesses, homeowners and even live-work spaces, all while maintaining the street’s historic charm. A little history: Elma Street was named after Elma Lineham, the eldest daughter of John Lineham, an early Okotoks businessman whose family played an important role in our town’s development. I love seeing our community grow, but I also love that we’re preserving the places that give Okotoks its character. Fun fact: the first home I ever lived in in Okotoks was on Elma Street. @french50bakery my latest pastry obsession 👌 Their viennoiseries are amazing. Delicate, flaky layers, yet soft and subtle. I usually get their grande50, cruffins, and special meal of the day. Their espresso drinks are amazing as well!! Their pastry case is massive so I always try something new and I haven't been disappointed. The vibes are chefs kiss, especially during these fall days!
