#Clique, Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell sat down with Cam Newton, and the conversation turned to whether gay people can enter heaven.

Mitchell said he believes they can if they repent, place their faith in Jesus Christ and stop acting on their same-sex desires. He also said those feelings may never go away, but under his interpretation of scripture, having the desire and acting on it are two different things.

“They may have that urge for the rest of their life, but if they don’t act on it, they don’t sin before God,” he said.

Mitchell added that he cannot force someone to be heterosexual, describing his role as teaching scripture and helping them live what he considers a life of holiness. He also emphasized that salvation comes through Jesus Christ, rather than morality alone.
