Lapland in December means snow, Santa and barely any daylight. But there's no shortage of things to do. 💙 Rovaniemi does Christmas properly. You can meet Santa Claus at his village, step over the Arctic Circle line, and get a letter stamped and sent from his post office. Further north, there's more to see. Slopes open in Levi, Ylläs and Ruka, and if you head up to Saariselkä or Ivalo, the northern lights are worth losing some sleep for. Some nights you can even watch them from bed, through the glass roof of an igloo. There's good food to be had too: dinner cooked over an open fire in a kota, Sámi-inspired dishes in Inari and Utsjoki, and in Rovaniemi, chocolate made by hand at the world's northernmost chocolate shop. Want something to bring home? Levi's Christmas market runs daily from late November to early January, with warm snacks and handmade woollens worth the detour.
