I went to Wharton, doubled my salary, and got a tech job I probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise. So I'm hardly going to pretend business school did nothing for me.

But if I were making that decision today, I'd have a much longer list of options to compare it with.

the programs I mentioned:

1️⃣ @moralambition: The School for Moral Ambition's career fellowships help mid-career professionals move into work on problems like food systems and tobacco. Paid training and placements, with funding arrangements varying by program.

2️⃣ @linkedin: The Academy of Economic Opportunity is a 14-week entrepreneurship pilot where employees practice things like hiring, pitching investors, and building products. Currently being tested internally, so you can't just sign up yet.

3️⃣ @claudeai: Anthropic's Claude Corps pays $85K a year plus benefits to learn AI and put it to work inside nonprofits. For early-career applicants with under two years of full-time experience; fellows are employed by CodePath.

4️⃣ @ycombinator: Startup School is a free, self-paced online course covering things like building an MVP, finding users, and raising money.

5️⃣ @a16z: The Horowitz Andreessen Academy is for college-age students coming out of high school, rather than MBA applicants. But I think the economic logic is similar: practical skills bundled with the network, credibility, and access that make elite education worth paying for.

Some pay you, some are free, and some are still experiments. I'd start with the work I want to do, then compare who can help me learn it, meet the right people, and afford the transition.

Curious what would've changed your mind when you were considering business school!

MBA will become the most useless 6 figure degree debt to add as a credential paper on the wall. Now first define what the word “Administration” actually means in today’s world and where things are headed. As SI reaches inflection point and event horizon, no amount of human taught “administration” will mean much when 50years of MBA have left the world saddled with $300+ Trillion in debt and garbage fiat currencies devalued to toilet paper. 😂.

Revised: If you go to anything less than a top 15 b school it isn’t worth it.

They literally take the most brilliant, driven hardworking people and systematically turn them into sociopaths and teach them how to put profits above everything and mingle with other sociopaths.

“What you’re really buying is not a degree but a recruiting pipeline and network.” Yup. At UBC’s business school, their logo is literally a door opening.

There needs to be a lot more serious thinking regarding the future of MBAs ! An example MBA’s with entrepreneurial and AI advanced degrees!! Too many interesting options to pursue before deciding to simply trash and dump an entire MBA program!!
