I ask myself all the time during training, “why do I do this?”
Is it the suffering? Is it the feeling that I get after I do a run that made me feel better than how I felt before? Is it that someday I want to be fast? Is it the community that I am proud to sweep on Tuesday nights? Is it my run group on Wednesdays that makes me feel like I have been adopted by a bunch of badass women?
It’s honestly all of these things, but mainly it’s a way to show myself that even though I am not the same athlete I was a few years ago, I am still an athlete. I can push myself to the point of getting sick. I can wake up and not be able to move my body. I can on a whim run for ten hours straight and cry at hour 8 and still keep going.
All I can say is that I love the pain and going further every time. Clocked 33 miles this time around and I’m hungry for more next year
