Humbled, proud, grateful.

Humbled by the heat, the sun, the fueling.

Proud that I went out for another lap and then kept going when I knew I was “out”.
Proud that I reset and went back out later to grind out a few more miles and to see what more I had to give.
Mostly though, the pride lies in the fact that I listened to my body and didn’t put myself into a hole that would be difficult to climb out of…
Because there is clearly much work to be done.

Grateful for the lessons. They are the gift. Better learned today than 9 months from now when there is less room for error. There is so much to learn and there are so many ways to improve. Instead of feeling failure, I choose to feel confident. Confident I can learn, confident I can grow, confident I can be so much better. Every run, every milestone, every lesson is a gift; an opportunity to grow…
If we only choose to see it that way,

Unwavering love and pride for my partner in all this crazy bullshit @jordanjensen_13 and for hyping and crewing me even when you were hurting. As much as I love all this, I love you infinitely more. ❤️

Thank you Malcom for getting me through the last official lap and to my new unknown friend for helping me navigate lap 6 when I was lost (hope you crushed your goal).

find something that brings you this much joy when it goes right

don’t be afraid it will break your heart

it will

it needs to sometimes

it needs to make you so afraid to fail that you’re afraid to try

but try because you’ve given up too much

given up too much of yourself

too much joy

too much suffering

that you have evolved into something else

something quiet

something content

then be ready to evolve again

I wasn’t sure I deserved better, but I knew she did.

She deserved everything, and I would do anything to protect her…and I did.

18 years ago.

I carried us both until she learned to fly, and fly she did.

Now after 35 years I did it for me.

Now I am free.

A big Cap City welcome to our newest member, Katie @katieeeeekj! 🎉

We’re excited to have her join the Cap City Class of 2026 and our crew of passionate runners of all levels who hit the pavement, push limits, and support each other every step of the way.

Katie joins Cap City as an advanced runner with extensive running experience and continues to seek how far she can go beyond her limits.

When asked why she wanted to join Cap City, she stated “I want to achieve personal goals, improve race pacing in competitions and to as a runner!”

Well that happened… Started getting sick around halfway maybe. Looking back I think it was running through the storm drain tunnels. I haven’t been able to fully kick this bout of vertigo that started a little over a month ago and it got worse again Friday. The tunnels made me feel super dizzy and nauseous, kind of like a VR game. Stopping was never an option though. I kept fueling, but by the later miles I just felt like I was running with a piano on my back. Not excuses though, the reality is, I didn’t get the job done today. The fitness is in there though, I know it. This is just more practice in suffering and that will pay off in the end.

Because of all the veering into the grass (and because I’m awful at running the tangents), I also ran over 27 miles so I guess I’m officially an ultra runner.

Then my finishing time didn’t show and when I took my bib off, I realized there’s something very important missing, the timing chip.

Definitely not my day, but this is all part of it. I will wage on. by @katieeeeekj
