A BESPOKE BRACELET FOR A SITUATIONSHIP
Someone recently came to me with a brief for a bespoke crystal bracelet.
She’d been in a situationship for almost a year and wanted the confidence to ask for something more serious, but was worried about what the answer might be.
Putting aside any personal advice I might have, my role was to understand what she needed emotionally.
Whilst the obvious response might be to focus on love, confidence and communication, once we start asking questions, we realise there may be much more going on.
1. When you think about having this conversation, what worries you most? Is it rejection, losing the person, or changing what you already have?
2. Do you generally find it difficult to express what you want, or is it specifically with this person?
3. Are you clear about what you want from the relationship, or are you still trying to work that out yourself?
4. If the answer isn’t what you’re hoping for, what do you think you’ll find hardest to deal with?
5. Do you feel you’ve been putting your own needs aside to maintain the relationship?
Each answer helps me understand what someone might need support with, beyond the situation they’ve initially described.
That’s why, when someone comes to me for a bespoke bracelet, I don’t immediately start choosing crystals.
I start by asking questions.
Two people can come to me with exactly the same brief, but their emotional needs may be completely different.
