We were given quite the welcome and appreciation when we came to the Great Wall at the Pass at Bandaling. This “Bandaling” — “Ba” means 8. “da” means “to reach”; “ling” is summit. From that location one can go 8 directions: simply to go everywhere. We are right by Inner Mongolia. It is said you are not a real man if you have not been to the Great Wall. Here it is preserved and has the intersection of so many branches of the walls in one location. The Foreign Affairs Ministry made sure we got right to the best spot to be able to access the Great Wall and then they presented us with this nice certificate.
