✡️ Okay, there are definitely more topics I could have added, HOWEVER these are some of the most common ones that come up when I’m building rapport with Jewish teen clients (for me)! 💙👇
As a Jewish therapist who works with teens, I also make space for the intersectionality of their identities, including being LGBTQ+ 🏳️🌈, neurodivergent 🧠, or navigating multiple identities at once. And yes, dating definitely comes up, too! 😂
🫂 Why is rapport so important? 👇
Teens may come to therapy because a parent encouraged them to attend, and they might not know what to expect or feel comfortable opening up right away.
Building rapport helps them feel understood, respected, and more willing to engage in therapy.
I also always try to leave time for teens to ask ME 🤔questions and get to know me! This is their space, and I want them to feel they have a voice in the relationship we build together. 💙👏🙂↕️
The goal is to stay curious, ask questions, and learn what their identity means to THEM, rather than make assumptions. 🙋♂️
Any others people have noticed are brought up to help build the relationship — I tell you the list goes on!?
