Autumn leaves may look beautiful on trees, but once they pile up in the yard, they can create problems for lawns and landscape plants.

Thick layers of leaves can block sunlight, trap moisture and increase the risk of disease.

The good news? Those fallen leaves are also a valuable source of organic matter and nutrients that can be recycled right back into your landscape.

Two easy ways to recycle fall leaves:
• Mulch them into your lawn with a mower.
• Add them to a compost pile to create a nutrient-rich soil amendment.

By recycling leaves instead of throwing them away, you can improve soil structure, help retain moisture and return valuable nutrients to the landscape.
