You've been told Elon Musk started Tesla.
The record says otherwise.
In 2003, Tesla was founded by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Elon wasn't there.
A year later, he wrote a $6.5 million cheque, 87% of the entire round, and took the chairman's seat.
By 2007, the founder and CEO was removed by the board.
By 2008, the chairman was CEO.
Martin says the board voted behind his back. Elon says it was unanimous, because of Roadster delays.
Then in 2009, Martin sued. The settlement quietly turned two founders into five.
Funny how a company's origin story can change once the lawyers get involved.
