Drake is facing a new copyright lawsuit over his chart-topping Iceman single “Janice STFU.”

Composer Aviel Calev Hirschfield alleges that the song’s chorus is “literally identical” to a demo he created and sent to members of Drake’s production team in early 2026. The complaint was filed Friday by attorneys Gregory Korn and Jonathan Steinsapir and was first reported by Billboard.

According to the lawsuit, Hirschfield wrote the demo in late 2025 and early 2026 over music provided by production duo FNZ, longtime Drake collaborators. Hirschfield says he specifically created the song for Drake and later sent the finished demo to FNZ and other producers, but never received a response.

Hirschfield claims he did not hear Drake’s finished version until Iceman arrived, at which point he recognized what he alleges was the same melody and lyrics from his demo. FNZ are credited as co-writers on “Janice STFU,” which also interpolates Lykke Li’s “I Follow Rivers.”

The songwriter says he later requested a co-writing credit and publishing share but was denied. His lawsuit names Drake, OVO Sound and Universal Music Group and seeks a portion of the song’s profits. Drake’s representative declined to comment to Billboard, while UMG had not responded at the time of publication.

“Janice STFU” spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 20 weeks atop Hot Rap Songs. The allegations have not been proven in court. 🛑

Deva sir… Deva sir… Deva sir. ❤️💔

I have rarely come across a person as genuinely good-hearted as you, sir. A true legend who is so humble and down to earth.

I had the privilege of spending almost 45 minutes to an hour having a conversation with you. We spoke about your films, and you patiently listened to everything I had to say. There is a huge difference between my age and your experience, yet you gave me so much time, respect, and patience. I initially approached you for a promotional collaboration, but I walked away with something far more precious — a beautiful connection and friendship.

But, Deva sir, it is heartbreaking to know that you have left us today. It is so difficult to accept this loss. You have earned the love and respect of so many people, and that itself speaks volumes about the beautiful human being you are.

Tamil Nadu will truly miss you, sir. Your melodies will live on forever. No matter how many years pass, your music will never fade away. Like a diamond, it will remain timeless and precious for generations to come. 🎶❤️

We love you, sir. We miss you, sir.

You will always remain in our hearts through your music and the beautiful memories you have left behind.

Rest in peace, Deva sir. 🙏💔#

@srikanth_deva_official More power to you, brother. ❤️

On 3 August, 17-year-old Cameron Waldeck-Cooks and 19-year-old Ethan Coetzee were found dead at a lodge in the Sabie area in Mpumalanga.

The police launched an inquest and later opened a case of murder after postmortem results suggested that Cameron was strangled, while Ethan may have died by suicide.

News24 has seen a letter by an attorney for the Waldeck-Cooks family, raising concerns over the police investigation, including that the teenagers’ cellphones were allegedly not taken by police to download the data that may contain crucial evidence.
