Almost 30 years since I last visited Guyana, I found myself back inside Stabroek Market with my mom buying fish.

Somewhere in the middle of all the noise, movement and conversations, I saw this man working and knew I wanted to photograph him.

I didn’t know exactly what the painting would become. I just knew there was something about that moment I wanted to capture.

So I asked if I could take his picture.

Those photos came back to the USA with me. And now, months later, this is where they’ve led.

The full sketch is finally on canvas.

Now the question is what happens when the color comes in.
