Today you would have turned 80, Dad. ❤️
Alongside Mom, you remain one of my greatest inspirations.
You were adventurous, larger than life, endlessly curious, and gifted with an extraordinary mind and an enormous heart. You crossed continents and put your intelligence to work on water, agriculture, and problems far bigger than yourself. You made room for laughter, love, kindness, and the joy of being alive.
You taught me so much through the ups and downs of your life. Some of that wisdom came from the light, and some from the shadow. As I grow older, I appreciate more deeply what both have taught me.
You valued impact over money, and love, family, and joy over material wealth. That lesson became beautifully clear at your funeral.
My heart glowed through the grief as more than a hundred people joined by Zoom from around the world. People whose lives you had touched, who couldn’t be in the room but wanted to be there. Hearing their heartfelt, tear-filled tributes, their stories, and their love for you, I felt the reach of your kindness.
In your autobiography, you wrote, “Life is about relationships.”
That day, I understood those words in a way I’ll never forget. To me, that is the true measure of wealth: the love you give, the lives you touch, and the kindness people carry with them because they knew you.
It is one of the greatest lessons you left me, and one I hope to live by.
Mom and I love you and miss you deeply. Happy 80th birthday, Dad. Thank you for the adventure, the wisdom, and the love. You are still shaping the man I’m becoming. ❤️
