The Second Pass - here I’m glazing with thin, transparent oil paint to saturate colour and deepen tonal values. This brings real depth and lustre, producing a luminosity unique to oil paint. This also adds a slight sheen, as I’ve added a little Walnut oil to the glaze. So, almost done. Now it’s time to let it dry and see the result.

Hi Nial, I’ve been away for awhile dealing with the loss of my dad and handling his estate as well as recovering from a couple illnesses but I’ve been curious as to what you’ve been up to. You’re an inspiration to me as our styles are very similar but I really learn so much more from watching you paint from the brush strokes you use to the type of brush you use. I’m sure you don’t remember me but maybe you’ll recall that I complimented how similar your painting was to Turner, who I greatly admire especially for his skies. You’re quite an inspiration to so many of your admirers and as I attempt to paint The Fighting Temeraire by J.M.W Turner, I’m reflecting from what I’ve picked up from you.

You were actually my inspiration after I saw your work on tube. Few years back I got very sick. Home and depressed, your story about your father insured me and to paint freely. Thank you!!!
