People have been commenting on my wedding tattoos a lot lately…probably because I’ve been working with my hands a lot more lately. They’ve been on display more?
I never know how to answer. What does that mean? I usually say it used to mean I am married.
The idea for the triangle came from a Ram Dass quote. When I believed in us I thought we could create great things together. One week before our one year wedding anniversary my husband threatened to kill me. Why? I started to softly cry while we were walking home in August in Arizona heat after our car broke down. I was trying to hide it from him when he realized, he turned to the gas station we were passing by to grab some beer, and when we got home he looked me in my eyes and said “I will kill you”
After that the triangle on my finger meant I was married to yoga more than any man. Especially him. I dedicated myself to my craft and tried to plan a way out. I’d love to say I stuck with that, but I didn’t.
That story doesn’t matter now. I am back to my craft. I still feel this tattoo means I’m married to yoga. Married to my practice. Married to my passion. Maybe there was a time it meant I was married to a man, but it was always about the yoga between us. I have two other tattoos dedicated to that day in August and I’m hoping to get one covered soon, but this one will stay. As a reminder to myself to stay humbly dedicated to the practice of yoga above all.
