If you’ve ever reached the end of one of my short stories here and thought, “No. You cannot leave me THERE,” then I probably owe you an introduction to Isla and Adrian. 😂

Because with these two, I didn’t have to stop after an Instagram caption.

I could stay with them when the conversation got uncomfortable. I could follow them home. I could let the attraction build instead of rushing it, let them get things wrong, give them time to learn each other properly and find out what happens when wanting someone is the easy part… but trusting them with the things you normally keep hidden is much harder.

And yes, I got to write all those moments I usually make you imagine after I end a post at exactly the wrong time. 😏

The Lantern and the Sea takes place in Dubrovnik and follows Isla, a cello restorer, and Adrian, an art restorer. They’re two people with their own scars, their own secrets and very different reasons for being careful about who they let close.

I became ridiculously attached to them while writing it.

So if you like the little worlds I create here, but sometimes wish you could stay inside one for longer, this is the one where you can.

You don’t have to wonder what happened next.
