a moment for the dress + veil
as Christian and I were preparing for marriage, we spent a lot of time in Ephesians 5:21-33. In this passage, Paul speaks on the beautiful “mystery” of marriage, Christ, and the church. When I first started preparing for marriage I didn’t understand why God loved it or made it. But the further we went into this passage in Ephesians the more God revealed the beauty of His design for marriage. This “mystery” of marriage was not some secret God has been keeping from us, but more of one of His divine, beautiful plans He has set from the beginning, that wasn’t able to be fully revealed until Christs death on the cross. I learned that the meaning and purpose of marriage is to reflect Jesus’ sacrificial life and death on the cross. That from the first marriage of Adam and Eve, God created marriage to reflect two people entering into a completely sacrificial relationship, where lives are laid down in service of the other, just as Christ laid down His life for the church.
Marriage is Gods gift to us, which allows us to attempt to reflect His relationship with us, His bride, the church. It is designed to be sanctifying and humbling.
This realization of Gods design for marriage was so impactful to me that I wanted it to be on full display at our wedding, and so I had it engraved into my veil. “A Profound Mystery” that Christ would love us so much to live and die a sacrificial life for us. And that we now get to step into a season of life where we get to more fully understand this beautiful and profound mystery 🤍
