most beginner photographers are making this mistake with foreground. foreground is an excellent way of learning how to take better photos, but only if you use it right

Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles: The Official Medal Collection (1990) — one of those things you can completely forget existed… until you see that folder again.

The collection contained 15 metal medallions, each with a different character or vehicle:

🐢 Leonardo
🐢 Michaelangelo
🐢 Raphael
🐢 Donatello
🐀 Splinter
📺 April
🧠 Krang
🥷 Shredder
🐗 Bebop
🦏 Rocksteady
👊 Foot Soldier
⚔️ Casey Jones
👹 General Traag
🚐 Turtle Wagon
🎈 Turtle Blimp

And they were more substantial than the usual plastic freebies.

Each copper-nickel medal was about 27mm across and weighed roughly 8.2g. Even better, they were actually struck by Pobjoy Mint in Surrey — a real British mint — for the 1990 collection produced by Wallace International.

The reverse carried the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles name, “New York City Sewer” and the Mirage copyright.

And that word HERO instantly dates this as British childhood nostalgia.

When the cartoon arrived in the UK, “Ninja” was replaced with “Hero” because of concerns around ninja imagery and weapons. Michelangelo’s nunchaku were also heavily edited from the UK broadcasts.

So British kids got Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles on the television, toys, games…and these medals.

One more very 1990 detail: the medal actually spells Michelangelo as “Michaelangelo”, the spelling widely used on early Turtles merchandise.

Finding the one you still needed and finally filling the last gap in that display felt ridiculously important.

Who still has theirs — and did anyone actually complete all 15?
