Light and shadows in St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Dublin - May 2026.
This shopping centre was built in the mid 1980s and opened in 1988. There are proposals (which I understand are under appeal) to demolish part of it including the glass dome to make way for a new development. Unfortunately, the new design looks like a minimalist modern office block and doesn’t appear to retain any of its current beauty in its design. The shopping centre has unique iron work, a glass roof and during the day is beautifully lit with natural light. Personally, I think its design should be preserved or at least better incorporated into the new design. Hopefully, these photos give some idea of how lovely it is especially in the daylight.

Oh wow, Celine! Lines, angles, shapes, symmetry! Gosh, I should take the pupils here - there’s a fun Maths lesson or two here!! Love this iconic spot! Hope it has many years left in it!! ☘️💚

Beautiful building and design. Loved the first picture. It's a shame how the government is so keen to demolish such beauty. They should preserve it instead
