Photos taken on a spectral, misty walkabout in Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, on All Hallows’ Eve; the time of year when the veil between the worlds grows thin and the spirits awaken. While I didn’t manage to make the acquaintance of any ghosts, I did, however, come across two thespian like guys in regal costume. They were happy for me to take their photos and I did so amidst cobwebs along with the sound of church bells and ghostly sounds that were playing on a speaker nearby. I forgot to ask what disguises they were wearing, but to me, they seemed like Shakespearean characters and of course, ‘Alas, poor Yorick’ graced us all with his presence. 🎃👻💀🕸️🕷️

A little throwback to the long, warm, summer days earlier this year and one of the many beautiful sunsets that we were blessed with this summer.

These photos (a sunset, a Martello Tower, Ireland’s Eye and some gulls) were taken in July in Portrane and Donabate in North Dublin.

Photo 2 is of the Donabate Martello Tower (Balcarrick), one of many Martello Towers that were built on the coast of Ireland in the early 1800s by the British to defend against a potential invasion by Napoleon Bonaparte.

Photo 4 is a photo of Ireland’s Eye taken from Donabate.

This is a little different from my usual post - it’s a photo that went wrong but it reminds me of the animation at the start of the Dire Straits video for ‘Money for Nothing’ or early computer graphics so I couldn’t resist posting it. It’s definitely one for the ‘MTV generation’ 🤖😁

Photo taken Oct ‘26.

Light and shadows in St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Dublin - May 2026.

This shopping centre was built in the mid 1980s and opened in 1988. There are proposals (which I understand are under appeal) to demolish part of it including the glass dome to make way for a new development. Unfortunately, the new design looks like a minimalist modern office block and doesn’t appear to retain any of its current beauty in its design. The shopping centre has unique iron work, a glass roof and during the day is beautifully lit with natural light. Personally, I think its design should be preserved or at least better incorporated into the new design. Hopefully, these photos give some idea of how lovely it is especially in the daylight.

The first two photos were taken at Howth Castle, (which has its origins in 1177 - I understand that the oldest parts of the castle that are extant today date back to the 1450s)( @howthcastle ) Dublin, and the third photo is of St Mary’s Anglican Church, Howth, which dates back to 1816. Photos taken Sept 2026.

When you wander around old castles, you can’t help but think about all the souls that once called those places home and wonder about the lives that they led.

Photos of sunset clouds taken this evening (Sunday) from Howth, Dublin - where every few moments, the sky painted a new scene. 🌅Thanks to @irishskiesforecasts - whose sunset forecast I checked before I left the house. I also sneaked in a photo here of tonight’s moon - although it’s a bit blurry as it was taken with a hand held camera. The black line across the moon seems to have been a black band of cloud or maybe it was a branch of a tree 😁
