Can we please keep showing naturally aging skin?

Not because it’s better. Everyone is free to choose what they do with their face. But in a world of filters, fillers, and now AI women who are almost impossible to distinguish from real people, we need a movement that keeps real skin visible, too.

The wrinkles, pimples, spots, pores, scars, and uneven texture. Faces that move, change, and carry the years we’ve lived.

Because looking at a stream of perfect faces and then meeting your own reflection can be very confusing. You start criticising yourself against something that may be heavily edited, or may not even be human.

We want to grow old, yet we’re taught to fear looking older. We fear losing visibility, desirability, or the value society attaches to youth. That makes letting go complicated.

For me, growing older is becoming an art of letting go. And letting go brings freedom.

I’ve learned this through toxic relationships, work, and expectations about who I should be. Now I’m learning it through my changing reflection.

I find comfort in the Buddhist understanding of impermanence: everything changes, and clinging to what cannot remain the same can deepen our suffering. And in the Taoist idea of moving with life’s natural rhythms, loosening our grip instead of trying to control every outcome.

Detachment isn’t about caring less. It’s about caring better. Being fully present without making our peace depend on everything turning out exactly as we hoped.

I can enjoy skincare, makeup, fashion, and feeling beautiful while learning to release the expectation that my face should stay the same.

Some days, acceptance comes easily. Other days, it takes kindness.

My younger self deserves my affection. The woman I am today deserves it, too.

So let’s keep showing real faces. Give ourselves room to change, to live, and to keep becoming.
