And so, we finally made it and set up base in our new home in the south west. We always had a plan to return here, and that’s become more important as our parents need a little more support. It’s a lot to ask of the youngest two, uprooting them from their lives and their friends. Hopefully they won’t hold it against us forever. We bribe them with beaches and surf and pasties. And a nice view. And time with cousins. And compulsory forest walks. And new kittens. Who the dog has given up objecting to. And commitment to a great Halloween. And time with cousins and grandparents in the pub. And visits to junk shops (oh, that’s just for me) And new clubs. And more pubs, and cousins and grandparents. So yes, it’s been worth it. So I’m now 50/50 north west/south west. Which means several days a week I hide away in Salford to devote myself to work (#devoted), life admin, and FaceTiming my beloved children/husband/dog/kittens. Mostly the dog tbf. We also bribed her with pasties.
Coming home has never felt so empty. I still expect to see you waiting for me, to be greeted by the little soul who made every home feel like home. Instead, I am met with silent echoes. It’s easier when the world is loud enough to distract me from your absence. But in the quiet hours, the midnight panic attacks & the mornings I wake without you, grief finds me. That’s when I cry for you to come back. Even in death, you are still teaching me about love, loss & the unbearable beauty of having something so precious that its absence can break you. You saved me from death more times than people will ever know. My greatest accomplice, my little shadow through every version of myself. Seventeen years of traveling, beach days, sleepless nights, laughter & tears. You witnessed parts of me no human ever will. You knew me before I knew myself & loved me through every person I had to become. The greatest blessing of my life was the day you let me save yours, never knowing you would spend the next seventeen years rescuing me. For that, I’m forever yours. What I would give to hold you one last time. To kiss the soft fur behind your ear. To simply look at you from across the room, doing absolutely nothing, just existing in the same world as me. I would give anything for one more ordinary day. A piece of my heart left this earth with you & that space will always belong to you. Seventeen years will never feel like enough when I wanted a lifetime. The hardest part of loving you is that I was your entire lifetime & now I have to live the rest of mine without you. So find me again. In this life, the next & every existence that follows. Find me wherever souls go when their bodies can no longer hold all the love they carry. If we are given a thousand lifetimes, I hope you choose me in every single one, because I will spend every lifetime looking for you. Come back, love of my life. Please, come back. ❤️‍🩹🕊️🥺
