There was an era of street photography when I used to spend a lot of time with my camera, just going around and taking pictures.
Over the year worked on a lot of personal projects, one of my favorite was at a dump yard. I spent around six months photographing the place and the people who worked there.
I used to go there early in the morning, sometimes around 6 AM, because the morning light was really beautiful. honestly the place used to smell like hell.
Someone suggested I put Moov around my nose to deal with the smell. I used to wear three or four masks just to walk around there.
The people there would come early in the morning and go through the waste, looking for anything valuable they could find. What really surprised me was that they would sometimes sit there and have breakfast.
I remember thinking, how are they having breakfast here? I could barely handle the smell.
But after spending more time there, I started to understand that this was their everyday life. They were used to the place in a way I wasn’t.
I was there to take photographs, but the more time I spent there, the more I got to know the place and the people.
Looking at these photographs now, I mostly remember that period of my photography life going out with my camera, finding stories, and documenting whatever caught my attention.
