We have made such beautiful memories visiting Lion’s birth family 🦁🥰 How amazing that there is so many that love our baby 🥹 Forever grateful we have birth families who love and accept all of us into their lives 🥹

With respect- you mentioned a few times that the trip was healing for you? What did you need healing from in regards to his adoption? I would imagine you guys going to Texas to visit and spend time with them would be incredibly healing for them. I'm just curious about the healing part for you. I am an adoptive parent myself but I feel like I'm missing something here.

Yes it really sucks that when ur in foster care , group homes or when u get adopted. The government doesn't let you see your family. I use to sneak out / run away just so I could see my brothers and sisters. What ur doing is great 👍

❀༉ In early October 1979, Freddie was preparing for an unusual engagement: a charity gala with the Royal Ballet at London’s Coliseum. These photographs, taken on October 3, capture him during rehearsals, just four days before the performance.

❀༉ The invitation came from principal dancer Wayne Eagling, who had initially approached Kate Bush. Freddie thought they must be mad to ask him, but Sir Joseph Lockwood encouraged him to give it a try. Lockwood was chairman of EMI and also chaired the Royal Ballet’s board of governors.

❀༉ Accustomed to moving freely onstage with Queen, Freddie now had choreography to learn, exercises at the barre and the demanding discipline of ballet training.

❀༉ Despite his athleticism on stage with Queen, the rehearsals were punishing. “They actually thought I could dance,” Freddie laughed later. “I had to do things in a week they’d been doing for years. It was murder. After two days I was in agony, hurting in places I didn’t even know I had, dear.”

❀༉ Wayne also recalled a memorable interruption from Sir Frederick Ashton. On discovering that the unfamiliar dancer was a famous rock star, Ashton inspected Freddie and declared, “Well, he’s got terrible feet!” Fortunately, Freddie found it funny.

❀༉ On October 7, Freddie appeared at the London Coliseum in his silver sequinned costume, performing choreography created for him by Eagling. The occasion also brought him into contact with Peter Freestone, who was working in wardrobe and would later become his assistant and lifelong friend.

❀༉ These rehearsal photographs preserve the preparation behind that appearance: Freddie learning unfamiliar steps, working through the physical demands and bringing his humour into the ballet studio. A fascinating little chapter in his life, and another expression of his interest in the world beyond rock music.
