This week would have been my 12th wedding anniversary yet it’s been 1 year since my divorce was finalized. Here are a few things I’ve learned as a young bride who got married at 24 and just generally as I navigate life after divorce. - No one is responsible for your happiness inside and outside of marriage. Do things that add to your joy. Take up a new hobby, be intentional in enjoying your life. -People are just people. You’ve got to stop fearing what people think of you and focus on living your life for you. Don’t lose sleep over who doesn’t like you. Also so many people are really dealing with their own lives to be bothered with yours. - Depression can’t hit a moving target. Move, workout, get outside, it’s does such wonders to your physical and mental health. When I was depressed in 2017 I stayed indoors for a good 6 months. I couldn’t even recognize myself after that period. I said I would never let it come to that again. - Ovulation is crazy in your thirties but self control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. Girl stay inside! You’ll never regret abstaining from sex. Save yourself from unnecessary soul ties plus having this boundary tends to show you who’s really serious about you or just looking to fool around. - Pray for good friends. God can bless you with humans who are for you and He also removes anyone who isn’t. Learn to release and embrace as they come and go and try not to harden your heart after a friendship breakup. You’re yet to meet all the people God has for you. - I’ve been married before so I don’t idolize it. Get to a place where you are content with being by yourself. You don’t have to do everything with other people. Be comfortable enough to sit with yourself and doing the inner work to become a better version of yourself. - Apologize to your kids. We grew up so different without hearing this from our parents. Show your kids that you aren’t perfect and that you also take responsibility for your actions. Model what you are teaching them. - You can have crazy chemistry with someone and they might still not be the person you’re meant to be with. Discernment and Prayer is key!
