Peri, meno, post. Which one fits you?

A lot of women use those three words like they mean the same thing. They don't.

Perimenopause is the lead-up. Your periods are still happening. Mayo Clinic and the National Institute on Aging call it the menopausal transition, and that word alone can clear up a messy appointment conversation.

Menopause is stricter. Twelve months in a row with no period. Mayo Clinic and ACOG both use that line. Not "kind of." Not "almost."

Then there's postmenopause. The years after that finish line. The National Institute on Aging says heart disease, stroke, and osteoporosis need more attention then.

Save the recap slide. Tell me in the comments which word you hear most at home or at the clinic.

Want to track your own symptoms? Comment GUIDE and I'll send you the free symptom tracker.

Sources: Mayo Clinic, NIA, and ACOG, all re-read on 4 Oct 2026. Links are in the pinned comment.

Education, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor about anything personal 💜
